Post Doctoral Fellowship Award Winners Announced
We are proud to announce the winners of the MODR postdoctoral fellowship awards!
Dr. Han Fang – Schertzer Lab & Dr. Mohammad Nazmus Sakib – Anderson Lab
Thank you to all of the applicants and supervisors! It was a highly competitive competition with many strong proposals.
Dr. Han Fang – PDF Schertzer Lab
Han Fang is a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Schertzer at McMaster University. She is interested in studying how post-biotics produced by the gut microbiota affect host metabolism, specifically glucose and fat metabolism in the liver, muscle, and adipose tissue. Dr. Fang completed her PhD degree in biomedical sciences at Auburn University where she focused on investigating the impact of niacin on adipose tissue inflammation, NAFLD, and gut microbiota. Before moving to Canada, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana, studying the mechanisms of dietary methionine restriction and knowledge translation. When she is not in the lab, she enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family.
Han’s contribution back to the MODR Research Community:
- MODR on-site expert for the Stable Isotope Gas Analyzer
- Will offer 2 dedicated training sessions each year to all MODR members, including experimental set-up and data analysis.
Dr. Mohammad Nazmus Sakib – PDF Anderson Lab
Dr. Mohammad Nazmus Sakib is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at McMaster University. He earned his Ph.D. in Public Health and Health Systems from the University of Waterloo in 2022. His research encompasses a range of topics including aging, chronic disease, cognitive epidemiology, and translational neuroscience. Dr. Sakib is proficient in the longitudinal analysis of large-scale public health datasets and the application of cutting-edge neuroscience technologies, such as noninvasive brain stimulation and functional neuroimaging, in public health research. Currently, he is focusing on examining the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on obesity and diabetes among adults, under the mentorship of Dr. Laura Anderson.
Mohammad’s contribution back to the MODR Research Community:
- Offering a student workshop on data analysis or epidemiology, and provide consultation to MODR researchers in need of advice and expertise on the analysis of longitudinal public health data
