Postdoctoral Fellow Position – Jeschke Lab
Overview Postdoctoral Fellow – Immuno-Metabolism
The David Braley Research Institute (affiliated with McMaster University) has an immediate opening for a full-time, experienced Postdoctoral Fellow in Immuno-Metabolism in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Jeschke – Professor of Surgery, Vice President of Research at Hamilton Health Sciences.
Our laboratory focuses on translational research to attenuate trauma-induced stress, hypermetabolism, and inflammation.
Our laboratory has recently shown that the adipose tissue and its ensuing browning plays a major role in hypermetabolism which is associated with substantial adverse clinical outcomes for years. The goals of our research are to develop novel treatments and interventions to attenuate the browning response and to potentially implement novel clinical treatments.
Description
The ideal incumbent is an enthusiastic, highly motivated, organized individual with interpersonal skills who will enjoy collaborating and conducting research in a stimulating environment. As a member of our lab, the successful candidate will be part of a team conducting independent research to study the effects of burn on the adipose and adipose associated mediators. The results from the studies could potentially lead to the development of novel therapies to improve clinical outcomes of severely burned patients.
Skills and Qualifications:
- PhD (or combined MD/PhD) in Cell Biology or Metabolism, with strong background in lipids and adipose tissue research
- Experience in some or all of the following techniques: flow cytometry with multi-color panel design for immune cell profiling & immune cell sorting, assessments of immune cell function and immunometabolism both in vitro and in vivo, biochemical techniques (e.g. western blot, IP’s, etc.), primary cell culture, animal/rodent models, molecular biology techniques (real-time gene expression, etc.), tissue processing, imaging (e.g. confocal microscopy)
- Study design and hands-on execution & interpretation of mitochondrial respiration measurement and mito stress tests
- Experience in study design and result interpretation involving metabolomics, proteomics, and scRNA-seq considered as strong assets
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven
- Strong ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proven track record of publications in high quality journals required (minimum of 5 publications); some successful minor grant funding desirable
Duration and Funding
The term of the fellowship is two years. Selection will be based upon the candidate’s research potential and required qualification and skills. The salary is $50,000 CAD/year with benefits.
How To Apply
In the Jeschke lab, we pride ourselves on fostering a positive, open, exciting, and productive research environment. Qualified and like-minded candidates are invited to submit a cover letter (brief description of research experience and interest) and CV to: Dr. Marc Jeschke at jeschke@HHSC.CA (with “Postdoctoral Fellow – Metabolism” in the subject line).
We thank all applicants for their interest but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
The David Braley Research Institute is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (‘AODA’). If you require accommodation for disability during any stage of the recruitment process, please indicate this in your cover letter.
