Celebrations and Successes
Congratulations to Dr. Fahd Alshammri – PGY3 in the Department of Pediatrics- on being award a 1 year CPEG Fellow Project Grant. His project, supervised by Katherine Morrison, is titled “Factors associated with the development of dyslipidemia among pediatric patients with diabetes: A single center-based study”
Congratulations to Vivian Vaughan Williams, Research Assistant in Katherine Morrison’s on 15 years of service at McMaster University! Viv has been instrumental in executing many clinical studies like CANPWR, Family stress, and MIREC
Laiba Jamshed – PhD candidate Holloway Lab – won a University of Saskatchewan Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS) PhD Presentation Award at the Laurentian & Prairie Northern Chapter of the Society of Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Annual General meeting & conference.
Congratulations to Genevieve Perono & Sergio Raez-Villanueva – Holloway Lab – for receiving funding awards from the Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s program (CGS-M).
Rahul Chanchlani and MODR co-investigators Gita Wahi, Russ DeSouza, and Joyce Obeid were successful in the CIHR Spring Project Grant competition! Their study will derive ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) normative data among South Asian children in ON & BC and also look at the association of diet, physical activity, and sleep.
Gita Wahi & Russ DeSouza received funding from @CIHR_IRSC for their project “10-year Follow-Up of the South Asian Birth Cohort: Understanding early life determinants of cardiovascular disease”. Other MODR investigators working on this project include Sonia Anand, Rahul Chanclani, Katherine Morrison and Zubin Punthakee. This project is a continuation of the START study which began in 2011. The aim of this study is to understand what childhood health behaviours are associated with the development of risk factors for metabolic syndrome. This information will enable the design of prevention interventions in this high risk population.

Constantine Samaan was invited by Diabetes Canada as a contributing expert to a live webinar about the safe return to school for children living with diabetes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
