Deborah Sloboda’s study is highlighted in a recent Gut Microbiota for Health article. This new study has found that changes in the maternal gut microbiota contribute to an increased risk of obesity in the offspring through gut microbiota, gut barrier and placental adaptations.

There was substantial media coverage of the REWIND clinical trial led by Hertzel Gerstein (Medicine) that assessed cardiovascular outcomes in patients treated with dulaglutide, including MDMagazine, the Hamilton Spectator, Renal and Urology News, Healio, and Technology Networks.

Celebrations & Successes
Sandy Raha received funding from NSERC Discovery for “Role of endocannabinoid system in regulating trophoblast cell function”.
Constantine Samaan has been chosen to receive funding from the recent HHS Foundation Gala for his work in reducing the lifetime effects of pediatric cancer.
Dr Sandeep Raha has received Hamilton Community Foundation ABACUS funding for a unique partnership between McMaster Child and Youth University and Neighbour2Neighbour. Together they will be providing math skills support to middle school children in grades 7 and 8 through the medium of cooking and baking. The funding will allow expansion of the current single site program to more schools in the Rolston neighbourhood and increase the mentorship opportunities between MCYU’s postsecondary workshop facilitators, N2N’s middle school participants and their program graduates, who are now secondary school students.
