Knowridge reported on Jonathan Schertzer (Biochemistry) and his research on the benefits of post-biotics.

Insulin dose is not tied to cardiovascular outcomes
HealthDay reported on a study published by Hertzel Gerstein (Medicine) that showed cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes are not explained by insulin resistance.

Researchers featured across campus
As part of McMaster University’s new #BrighterWorld brand introduction, 13 researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences, including Gregory Steinberg (Medicine) and Sonia Anand (Medicine and HEI) were showcased on banners across campus. The banners, which include photos and short descriptions of the researchers and their work were recently installed light posts across campus.

Endocrine Society 2018 Laureate Award Winner
Congratulations to Gregory Steinberg (Medicine) who was awarded an Endocrine Society 2018 Laureate Award. The annual award recognizes an exceptionally promising young clinical or basic investigator in the field of endocrinology.

NSERC Discovery Program Awards 2017
Congratulations to Mark Tarnopolsky (Pediatrics and Medicine) on his NSERC Discovery Program Award For Biological Systems and Functions.

Diabetes Investigator Awards
Congratulations to Gregory Steinberg (Medicine) and Jonathan Schertzer (Biochemistry) for being awarded grant funding from Diabetes Canada. Steinberg was awarded a Diabetes Investigator Award for his project on “inflammation, metabolism and type 2 diabetes”. Schertzer was awarded a New Investigator Award for his project on “microbiota control insulin dynamics and sensitivity”.

Katherine Morrison (Pediatrics), Gregory Steinberg (Medicine) and colleagues published an article in Scientific Reports: “Optimizing the methodology for measuring supraclavicular skin temperature using infrared thermography; implications for measuring brown adipose tissue activity in humans”

Relationship between insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk factors
Hertzel Gerstein (Medicine) and colleagues from the ORIGIN Trial recently had an article accepted for publication in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism: “Insulin Resistance and Cardiovascular Outcomes in the ORIGIN Trial.

Iron: A novel biomarker for pediatric celiac disease
Nikhil Pai (Pediatrics) and colleagues have published “Iron Status in Pediatric Celiac Disease: A Retrospective Chart Review” in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
